World Mental Health Day 2025 – Finding Calm in a Busy World

Friday 10 October marks World Mental Health Day 2025  a moment for all of us to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the importance of good mental health.

It is a powerful reminder that protecting our mental well-being is vital, especially in times of uncertainty and global instability.

As the Mental Health Foundation points out, “Constantly hearing about negative news from around the world can feel like a lot to take in and that’s because it is.”

In the digital age, it can feel almost impossible to step away from it all. But the truth is, we can take small, meaningful steps to protect our mental health and give ourselves space to breathe.

🧘‍♀️ Here are a few gentle reminders:

  • Limit how often you check the news or social media.

  • Spend time outdoors – even a short walk helps.

  • Talk about how you feel, without judgment or shame.

  • Remember that it’s okay to switch off and rest.

If you’re looking for support or guidance locally, why not meet the Social Prescribing Team on Friday 10th October at Leytonstone Library? They help connect you with community support, activities, and services that can improve wellbeing.

Waltham Forest Council offers a range of mental health support for adults and young people, including counselling, peer support, and wellbeing services. For more information, visit: Waltham Forest Mental Health Services.

For practical tips on managing overwhelm, the Mental Health Foundation has a helpful downloadable guide below that you can download.

World Mental Health Day isn’t just about raising awareness, it’s about creating a culture where everyone feels able to ask for help and knows support is available.
